We had a different charity drop on the 4th of June at the All Hearts Foundation and Wolf Sanctuary. All Hearts Foundations SA (AHF) is a one-of-a-kind wolf sanctuary, they are home to many wolves, all that have been rescued and surrendered. Their focus is the care and rescue of exotic/wild animals as well as domestic animals and trauma cases. The AHF is based in the heart of Hartebeespoort, with amazing views and natural scenery. They are a registered NPO and PBO, purely run off donations.
We had an insightful guided tour and met so many amazing animals:
- We got to know the wild pack, tamed pack, youngsters, and free roamers. Each of them have an incredible story and we learned so much about wolves and a wolf pack.
- From being thrown into a river to drown, to now being a valued educational tool, Spirit the Alaskan Malamute, has become an ambassador for a Hartbeespoort animal welfare organization and his miraculous rescue is helping to create awareness of animal welfare in South Africa.
- We met “One Ear”, a Canadian timber wolf, who is the Alpha male of the wild pack. The leader and the strength of the pack. He is a carefree, but wary spirit. A true vision of a wolf! He carries a majestic beauty.
- We had the privilege of petting Akira, a Canadian Timber Wolf who was once subject to someone getting him as a pet companion.
- Shimbungu’s story was heartfelt. Such a brave dog who endured great hardships, left paralyzed but with such a lease on life. He is a warrior, well taken care of and improving daily at the Sanctuary.
We got to know Lexi and her husband Ronnie – two incredible people doing amazing work. All the animals are so well looked after and loved. It was a blessing and a privilege to donate blankets, over 400kg of dog- and cat food, buckets for water, vegetables & fruit and non-perishable food and clothing for their community outreach program.
What amplifies the Charity involved is the personal sacrifice undertaken to ride the risky and difficult road to the Den of the Wolves, sharing the joy in the hearts of all and carrying that achievement memory away with us. A day celebrated, enjoyed and forever in our hearts!
