Charity Drop @ Susan Strydom Retirement Home | 2 March 2019
On Saturday, March 2, Zambezi MCC went to the Susan Strydom Retirement Home for the 1st term charity ride. Although it was a short 2.5km route, we arrived with a loud roar that could be heard clearly by all the elders…
All the men helped to bring in all the necessities for the home and afterward everyone was delighted with the malva pudding, ice cream, and custard. Uncle George made himself wonderfully at home between the ladies and talked about ‘the good old days.
Belinda, Karen and Bernard took pudding for the old people in the corridors who were not able to come out of their rooms and spent some quality time talking with and encouraging them. The 1st boyfriend on a motorcycle was Willem. He is still very young but is cerebral palsy and remains in the home with his grandmother. After Willem broke the ice, all the elderly were all queuing to ride with Uncle George, GB and Riaan.
There was also an emergency team to help load old people who included the rest of the Zambezi MCC. My heart bled for their arms and backs probably felt the next day. There were great sports and lots of laughter throughout the day and the people really appreciated it. The last ones to drive around was the matron and the head of Susan Strydom’s Home in a race between the two motorcycles. A short 20m dice!
Thank you so much to everyone who was part of the day and that you sacrificed the time for these lovely people. The headmaster said the elderly are now going to talk about Saturday next month.
You are all true Legends!
